Mitch Larkin will enter the new year as a world champion, a 49.57 victory in the 100m backstroke claimed ahead of some of the biggest names in backstroke on the books.

The Australian remains the only man to have cracked 50sec this season, the silver going to Radoslaw Kawecki (POL) in 50.11, bronze shared by Ryosuke Irie (JPN) and the Olympic champion Matt Grevers (USA) in 50.12.
